Serlachius Art Museum Gösta

EXTENSION FOR THE SERLACHIUS MUSEUM GÖSTA

The new building is place where there is no interference with the nice views approaching the Joenniemi Manor and the openness of the landscape.
The new extension grows inside the forest. It occupies the small plot where there is now a parking space. It respect the trees and look for them to protect itself.

Feasibility is base on compactness and flexible form.

The proposal has a sustainable principle of compact volume as the lees heat looser form. The free form of it contours allows to adapt dimensions of different parts of the programme and the spaces functionality

A building made of interior light is a distinctive architecture that clearly announce a difference from the massive Joenniemi Manor

The new extension is organised around the main foyer. From this central space is possible to walk to all the public parts of the programme except the café.  The ramps connect with travelling exhibition 1 on the first floor and with the basement with artwork storage and sanitary facilities. The double height around the connection ramp is a surprise space where light and views concentrate.

Smooth and close connection between the extension and the main floor of Joenniemi Manor is one of the principal objectives of the location of new building.

The restaurant and café facility, place at the highest point of the new building is an attractive and luminous resting place from where views open towards the lake.  It has a wide and nice terrace with far away views.

The sauna is located on the island as part of a new path around the exterior landscape.
